There is a lot of confusion about who can and who cannot get daily car insurance. Many people will not have heard about this type of car insurance and so many drivers seeking this type of cover are often unaware of the details of this type of car insurance policy.
For those that do not know day insurance or day insurance is car insurance that covers you to drive for short periods of time. In fact a policy can be taken out for any number of days between 1 day and up to 28 days. It allows you to drive a car you own or one that you have borrowed from a friend or relative to drive. It is a convenient way for the occasional driver to get insurance or to get insured to drive a vehicle that you would not usually drive and therefore not have a policy in place.
There are however a number of exclusions put in place by insurers who provide these types of temp cover. One such exclusion is temp car insurance for under 21 year olds, unfortunately with short term insurance the insurers are not willing to provide policies to young drivers.
Major insurers and even specialist insurers now only provide policies to drivers who are at least 21 years old. Some companies are even stricter and will only insure over 23 year olds and some you have to be at least 25 years old to get temporary insurance.
Whilst this is quite a major obstacle for young driver there is however an alternative in the form of a pay as you go policy. This allows you to get insurance for 1 month at a time with a 1 month minimum amount of cover. Although not ideal for every young driver it is the only feasible option for drivers from the age of 17 years.
